A morning study that meets from 6:30-8:00 AM (January 30 - April 17).
This group will meet at the Centre in The Commons and will be led by Aaron Boswell.
Commitment to attending each week is required. This is not a drop in and/or “come and go” group but one where those who sign up at the beginning will be expected to continue through the length of the study. It is understood that things “do come up” – travel, sickness, etc. – but with the rare exception attendance is mandatory for the sake of the individual and the group itself.
Some things to know about the study itself
Mining God's Word: How to Study the Bible is a 12-week course designed to introduce Westsiders to inductive Bible Study, leading to life-long digging and delighting in God's Word. This course is an introduction to the methodology of inductive study of the Bible.
Inductive study consists of careful observation of the text leading to sound interpretation and appropriate application. Westsiders will learn study strategies and principles of interpretation/application throughout the course, which they will apply to the book of Philippians. Although the book of Philippians will serve as the primary "training grounds", the course aims to impart study skills that are applicable to the entire Bible. The course also aims to foster sensitivity to literary genre, and cultivate inductive Bible study as a lifelong habit.
The amount of time needed for homework won’t be overwhelming but you can expect about 60-75 minutes of study a week. You will be asked to share your insight with the group at large as much as you feel comfortable doing so. This is also a study where there will be some memory work as part of your weekly homework.
Breakfast is not provided for this study, but we will have lots of great coffee to fuel the day.
There is a $25 cost for this study to provide for the Student Workbook. No other fee is associated with this course.
Registration closes January 28.
